Trolling report Lake Puckaway Wi.

I was out on tuesday with clients looking for walleyes and norhterns trolling on the lake. The setup we were using were in-line boards on 4 line counter poles which were placed in rod holders up at the bow. We had 2 boards on each sde. On these 4 poles we were running 2/5th once cleos on the outside boards and on the inside boards we had on number 5 shad raps. Then we had set out 1 lead core pole one each side in the middle of the boat in rod holders. These poles had 1 color out and had number 7 shad raps on them. Then farther back we were running 1 spinning rod on each side of the prop wash long lining 1/3rd once cleos. The colors of the baits were perch patterns and brite colors of shad raps for the dirty water the carp were sturring the lake up.

We started fishing at 7 am. and with no wind it started out slow but when the wind picked up also did the fishing. As soon as the brezze started we had two 26 inch northerns on a shad rap and one on a cleo. Right after we released both of them another flag went down and on a cleo we had a 18 inch walleye in the live well. Made another pass at the spot and boated another legal walleye. We had 3 walleyes for the day and about 9 northern, some sheephead and a couple of catfish on the cleos as well. A great day with 2 new clients and freinds.

Took the wife out for a few hours in the afternoon with the temps up in the higher 90,s we only fished 2.5 hours. It turned out to be a great time with her we did not get any walleyes but we had 6 northerns for the little time we were out. We ran 6 poles and the same baits as in the mourning. Good to get her out!

  1. Thanks for the report, Jeff. Water temps in the upper 70’s? I just got back from Rainy where the temps fought to stay in the 50’s. Looks like it will be a long summer, eh?

  2. Nice fish Jeff! I noticed last saturday that those channel cats on Puckaway fight harder than any other channel cats i’ve ever caught!
