Door County Ice Fishing Green Bay

Now that we are into the month of february which is the peak of our ice fishing season things are very busy for us with the ice fishing as a matter of fact I know I spend more time this time of the season in the ice houses with clients than I do at home even my dog looks at me when i do get home with a look on his face like who are you oh wait I remember now feed me.

Enough about that time to talk fishing and what has been happening  on the Bay of Green Bay here in Door County. We have been spending an incredible amount of time fishing for the whitefish which have been providing great catches for us on a daily basis. We continue to target the whitefish in water depths from 55 to 65 feet of water using jigging techniques with baits such as the Rapala jigging raps and another heavy hitter for us is the Rapala jigging shad raps in sizes #2 and#3 with the natural colors working best for us and on darker cloudy days having success using the UV colors . Also we have been having a blast catching these fish on the new #4 Ultra lite Rapala Rippin Rap they really hammer this bait when they take it.

Some of the groups have had interest in jigging for walleye in the evening and we have been shutting down on the whitefish around 3pm and moving into shallower water to set up and begin jigging for the walleyes just before sunset. Here in Door County we have very short windows where we can take advantage of the walleyes so we are either setting up in the dark and targeting them at sunrise for a couple of hours or we are fishing for them for a couple of hours at sunset.

Here in Door County we do not get a lot of bites from the walleyes but we do have a great shot at a super giant fish especially as we get into the late ice season but that big fish can happen at any bite. We have been using Rapala Jigging Raps in size #5 with minnow heads along with 1/4oz  VMC hammer head jigs with a whole emerald shiner on them for the walleye. We have been seeing the presence of walleyes in the areas we are fishing each night but only icing two to three fish each night with the fish running on the smaller side but still a blast to catch along with a nice bonus Lake Trout the other night.Good fishing and remember be safe.
