Spent last week at Kab. Sunday 8/16 we went with a guide to learn more on the lake. We ended up heading to Namakan during the morning. We hit humps in about 25-30 FOW. We marked fish but they were not biting. We managed a few in each spot. Had shore lunch at the Ash River Visitor Center. Ran into another guide who also said it was a tough bites. Fished a few spots on Kab on the way back Ended up with about 18 fish on the day. Biggest was 22. Most fish were caught on leeches and minnows, we did have crawlers, but I don’t think we caught any on them. Lindy rigs seemed to do a bit better than jigs.

The rest of the week we were able to find a few fish here and there. Ended up fishing spots that we usually would fish in June, but just would slide out a few feet deeper. Most of the fish in these spots were about 12-13 inches ,but did manage two 22s.

We head up in 9 days to Kabetogama. We are fishing with a guide on the 16th. From the reports that I see, fish right now are on mid lake structure and points in the 20-25 foot range. Some guys are still finding them on weed edges. Wade Watson-a guide up there, will do Facebook live post on most days that he fishes on how the bite is. He said that if you slide up on top of most reefs you can find bass and some nice perch.

We head up in two weeks to Kab. We hired a guide for the first day we are there. My boys 7 and 9 are excited to fish there again. I hope the guide is willing to share some insight on what to look for for the rest of the week. We have only fished there in Early/Mid June, so I am sure it is way different. I have studied the Hot Spots map and have Navionics App on my phone. I marked a few humps that we have fished in the past so we will see.

With young kids I think it is easier to jig for them versus messing with bottom bouncers and having them worry about depth control. That seems just like a lot of tangled lines for dad. But it is all about being together. Catching our limit is just a bonus.

We go up in about a month and have booked Travis. Glad to hear he does a good job. This will be our 4th time up, but we have never been there in later summer. I am sure the lake fishes a lot different than Mid-june when we typically are there.

We are staying at Voyageur Park Lodge. We have fished with Wade and Tim Watson in the past, but with schedules we are going with Travis Carlson.

My family went to to Carley State Park last Sunday to just get out of the house. I had the boys bring their rods with mepps tied on. We had two fish follow, but no biters. Was just nice to get out.

I took my boys there twice last summer to try it. We managed one white bass from the fishing pier by the landing. It was very snaggy though. Saw some guys land a sauger and a catfish by just casting in worms on a heavy slip sinker.

I have only seen one near the Metro in the last 10 years and that was down by Rosemount.

May be obsessed right now. I just purchased an annual membership for the club. Thought it might be worth it if I go a few times over the summer, and can save on shells.

If you ever see a left handed person shooting a right handed 870 and missing. Feel free to say hi.

I’ve always wanted to shoot trap on a league, but of course, we didn’t have that in HS and all the adulting stuff gets in the way now… I’m really trying to get my kids into it, my oldest son will try it this summer and see how he likes it at 11. Fingers crossed! Because if the eldest son likes it, the younger (and more competitive one) will take it up that same day.

Check out South St Paul. I think they had some discounts for juniors and a family membership.

King Salmon, Brown Trout, Lakers and Rainbows. Have a family trip to Sheboygan, Wi and booked a morning charter. Battling big fish will be fun for my 7 and 9 year old.

One more complaint. Printed the license myself. They are square and needed to folded. Don’t fit conveniently in a wallet. Wisconsin’s printable one are the size of a credit card.

I know it’s minor but again thanks for all the help.

Just started hunting and thought this would be a good chance to learn more. Went with my Father in law and kids. The boysloved the kids village and learning hunting safety. Hats off to the youth that came from all over the country to run that area. It was a good experience for someone new to the sport.

Also I looked at their website and I don’t see if kids are free or do you have to pay for them?

Pheasant hunted for the first time this year, and really enjoyed it. I think my family will be going. Sounds like they have some fun things for kids.

Just got back from 3 days in Chamberlain, South Dakota. This was my first time so I didn’t know what to expect, but is was very slow. A lot of standing water in the fields and most fields still had crops in them. Our group did get a few Thursday but we really had to work for them. The typical locations our group has had success in the past didn’t produce anything. Farmers in that area will probably be able to do some work in the fields later this week since things are drying out now.

I will be hunting for pheasant for the first time starting Thursday through Sunday in Chamberlain, South Dakota. Reports are that it is very wet for that area and there are a lot of crops still in the ground. I am looking forward to my first experience though. Looks like it should be a nice second half of the week.

Thanks for all the help. I ran to fleet farm and found a pair of Muck boots that could double for ice fishing. Don’t think my feet will be cold. Then found some nice browning upland pants on sale at Gander outdoors. Plan on wearing layers as many have said.

Like what most people have said, anything gold, pink or red. We had good luck with red glow as well. We went in mid February and had our bobber rods set about 6 inches off the bottom, and then jigged in the other hole. It seemed like every 30 minutes a new school would come through and you would get a few bites. We were told by one of the guides to just keep bringing the lure up if the fish were not hammering it. Some of the fish we caught we had 10 feet off the bottom.

As previously mentioned flashers are a good idea and if you see a mark high reel up to it, those were typically very aggressive fish. I am hoping to head up this winter again.

I think only two or three times in the last decade. Once while fishing at a small pond in Inver Grove, Ice Fishing out of SPortsmans and while fishing of the dock at VNP. All interactions have been fine

We are heading up June 15th. One area you might want to try is Tom Cod Bay not too much for structure, but it has some weeds. We did well a few years back tolling shallower diving cranks through that area in about 10FOW. Always a chance at a pike too.. Also maybe up the river towards gold portage? IF wind is right you could troll east west from the narrows to Ellsworth Rock Garden. We caught some nice fish in that area lindy rigging in about 16FOW
