. What religion or political party is COVID a member of?

Senator grilling a presidential nominee. How is this not political? Are senate hearings and presidential nominations related to politics or the latest fishing reports? How else would you define politicians and political nominees?

Does anyone remember when BK tried a forum reset to say no more Covid posts?

Now we have a senator grilling a presidential nonminee over Covid. To boot there’s clickbait in the header of a senator lighting someone up. How is this following the forum rules? Have the rules changed and I missed it? Do the rules not matter anymore?

@Dutchboy – so you know where this comes from. I’m sending in to have this removed. Politics and religion are not supposed to be part of this forum.

This last part cannot be over-stated as a benefit. Financial worry is a, if not THE, number one cause of stress, serious health problems, and worst of all, serious relationship problems. The bottom line is financial stress kills people and it kills marriages.

X3, don’t know Ramsey but was fortunate to learn this stuff growing up. Somehow got a little stupid in my 20s doing a career change but corrected shortly there after. Couple notes that have basically been said above.

Current situation: 48 years old, married, cash paid for toys, cars, etc. Starter home mortgage will be paid off next summer. 12 months worth of emergency liquid cash always available.

For an example to support Grouse. In spring 2020 we were facing the possibility of a double job loss. Wife was freaking out and I didn’t give two sh*ts. Saw an opportunity for an awesome summer. Why? Lack of debt leads to low fixed expenses. This is the key I learned in my late 20’s when I got laid off repeatedly doing IT contract work. She ended up with a short furlough and no interruption for me. Either way, wasn’t losing any sleep and no marriage stress.

Cars – 10 years to pay cash. Started the snowball with just $50/month extra on the payment. Tax refund, take 80% and put it on the loan. Paid off early, kept making the same payment to myself = bigger down payment. Make a little more money, $200/mo extra, lather rinse repeat. 10 years after starting the snowball I paid cash for a brand new vehicle. Still make a car payment, just to myself for the day when I buy the replacement.

Quote of the trip: Before going my buddy had a fascination with adding a Whopper Plopper to his collection. Hemmed and hawed forever. Since pike typically don’t like topwaters I encouraged this to the point where I actually bought it for him at the Outdoorsman in the Falls. Low and behold he actually caught a a couple on it and all very nice.

On the last full day of fishing he has a big fish chase the whopper plopper down. Manages to keep his cool and wait for the fish to take it 10 feet from the boat. In the middle of the fight, “That’s how we do it in Plopperville!” 15 pounds at sunset

Favorite fish for me: It’s also one that got away. Shortly before the plopper story I had a very large pike bump but not hook up. Then come following. Went into a figure 8 just because why not even though pike always spook at the boat. Dang fish followed it around for 4 full figure 8’s before taking off.

Second day up at Steamboat Shoal on the North part of the lake wasn’t as productive. Fishing was much tougher yesterday, only caught about half as many fish but we did catch several over 20 inches and one at 25 1/4.

That’s a bit of a run to make it all the way to Steamboat. Are you willing to share depths? Paperwork willing I’ll be around that area by Sunday.

Since there’s no way I can top DT, here’s a more boring note.

Two years ago I traded new tires at the shop and got a fair deal. Yesterday it was completely opposite. Manager at Discount Tire was straight up, I can’t offer you what these are worth. Everyone is buying used from FB Marketplace, Craiglist, etc. He made me an offer and it was insanely low just as he said.

So go see the classifieds, cough cough, hint, hint! shameless plug for me trying to sell a set wave

There was a video floating around of a guy on Mille Lacs doing 6 boats. He got a large inner tube, filled it and put a piece of plywood across it. He then lowered the motor and used the lower unit to get the weight of the boat off the lift and then pushed / pulled it back. Once the weight would teeter the boat into the water they got the tube and wood out and backed the boat off. The video is floating around somewhere.

No video and a few more years back but same principle. Inflate something or more than one something underneath. My uncle used a tube right under the stern. Remove any unnecessary weight from the boat.

You can pull with another boat. If it only needs a little help that’s one thing. If it needs more torque you risk damage to the bunk posts, bunks. they aren’t meant to flex laterally. If it needs a ton of torque, sorry to hear.

My boat came off the lift two weeks ago. It’s now trailered in and out for the rest of the season. We got it before big hassle was required.

    PATK :
I have September 22-28 reserved on my calendar. Probably be there the 23 and stay til the 27th ( that’s when my brother in law can get off work)

We should overlap by a couple days. Odds are we’re coming off the lake on the 25th.

I would rather have 3 Compres. In different length-power configurations. With 3 lures tied on than one St Croix or Loomis. Doing a quick lure change for a follow up cast. About the same money, excluding reels. I have a bunch of high end rods. They are great for feeling the fish breath on your jig. But not an issue with Muskies. Also high end rod warranties are becoming less impressive all the time. If money is no issue, or you’re going to be a died in the wool Muskie fisherman. Swing away.

That’s a better way of saying what I sent you via pm. This is the perfect answer.

yea think so!!!!! just curious. be nice to have ma nature help out a little since it appears she started the fire with lightning!!!!!!

Greenwood fire didn’t get much. Fire update I read they said maybe a tenth of an inch. System didn’t really do much farther east.

Exactly 1.5″ in the rain gauge in Brianerd.

Brainerd airport registered 1.6. your gauge is right on

First, some are sharing them as a “cheaper option” than performance tritoons. Sure they may be cheaper than some, but I’m showing the 21′ model with the 230hp coming in at $44k before taxes, titling, trailer, etc. That for sure will be low $50k’s out the door.

Having been to a boat show this summer that’s a bargain at $50k. I’m not saying that isn’t a lot of money. If it’s a buyer for a new pontoon and they are comparing prices this could sell a few units. Couldn’t believe how easy it was to see 6 figures on the price tags for tri toons

Can’t say how great it is to read an actual fishing report from the North end again! Pumped to see you did so well waytogo

Looks like we’ll be making our return in the middle of September and shooting for a two week trip. Maybe run into you at your sisters, I’m sure we’ll pop in.

Did a quick google. Not only is Johnson Outoors still in business, they are doing great. Stock price, revenue, etc. Things look pretty rosy from a financial standpoint.

Alex – I just saw your other thread on a musky rod. Having been in your shoes here’s where I what I’ve done. This way you can have a two rod setup.

In addition to what you have buy a pure musky rod and reel. You’ll be in the 8’6″ neighborhood. The extra length is needed for figure 8’s. There are endless debates on what’s the right reel and rod. Thorne is more than awesome but not everyone has that budget. St. Croix Mojo or Tackle Industries work well too. Maybe in a Heavy action. That can still work down to Showgirls but start getting into rubber like Bulldogs. MH is also an option but not sure about 8oz class rubber baits, I’ll defer to someone else.

For reels you can start with an Abu 6500 but spend more to get something durable enough for the big baits. Don’t need a Tranx 500 but there is a middle ground between these two examples. Tranx 400, Lexa 400, Calcuttas, Fishthumper has an active thread on another couple going right now, etc.

Then you have primary and secondary setup. Musky you lead with your musky rod but you can still use your 7’6″ lighter rod for smaller options like Mepps bucktails or Baby Girls

Pike you have your 7’6″ lighter rod as the primary. Then if you need to throw big baits, go to your musky rod.

I have both and it took a while for me to get used to the single handle. Now I don’t even notice it.

What Rodwork said. I have a pair of Abu 6500’s. use the power handle one for slightly larger baits. After one trip, I can seamlessly switch back and forth.

I have the same answer when I see this question. Can that setup throw the baits you want to throw? How heavy are the baits and figure out the setup.

As for a rod snapping on a fish, you can set the drag on the reel accordingly. That rod is listed at 1/4-5/8oz. I wouldn’t worry about casting baits up to 1oz. Where I would worry is when you get to musky baits getting 2oz or bigger. At some point the lure will snap the rod or it will just suck to haul in bucktails as lures or blades get bigger.

My fishing partner and I have been using 6’6″ to 7′ MH rods very simi4lar to yours for many years. Somwewhere in the Rainy Lake forum you’ll see 40″ pike and one 46″ musky. That will handle any fish you catch, don’t worry about it.

Just curious did you have any luck on a resolution?

    @supercat
No, the saga continues. Got all ready to do the tests everybody suggested. Always do a baseline check. Damn thing worked without issue, go figure. The silver lining is my 12ga extension cord is 100ft. With a little monkeying around I can just reach the house outlet from the boat. Next time it fails that will be my first move.

Finally crossed lake trout off the list two years ago. Next one up is musky. Speaking of that, maybe summer heat is almost over and time to get the gear ready??

Cool list from all of you. By far I like the mermaid, without jaws, the best rotflol rotflol

If possible it might help to move the gfci down to the lake and make the one on the home a non. GFCI’s can be fussy on circuits longer then 100′

That’s an interesting idea that could work. At house about the only thing we plug in is the pellet grill. Would that be okay to an outdoor outlet if it wasn’t gfci?

All – the run to the dock is in the neighborhood of 120’ish feet. I paced it off around 30 yards in a straight line.

Does it trip other GFCI outlet say at your house in the garage or does it work there?

Runs fine in our detached garage on a short cord. That said the outlet is not a gfci. This is a shared multi-unit building so I can’t see where the wire goes back to from the outlet.

Great suggestions, a little more background based on the responses

What is the current rating for your GFI? If 15 amp it is probably too close to your current draw. Your wire size and lenght of run also enter into it. Check wire size tables for run length to make sure it is heavy enough. If wire size is 14 you can’t go over a 15 amp GFI so wire and GFI may be too light

The “cord” is underground from the dock to the house. At the house is where it plugs into the outlet. I don’t know the gauge underground but my hunch is that it’s 14. If I was doing it from scratch it would be larger. The run

The GFI outlet is 15amp. I guessed it was on a 15amp circuit so that’s what I bought instead of a 20amp outlet.

. I need 120 feet of cord to reach the boat. With 14 gauge cords I was tripping the GFCI.

I do have a 12ga extension cord (50 or 100) and a 25ft 14ga. Did run extension cords direct to the house but I can’t remember if I used the big 12ga or smaller one that was handy. I’ll retry today with the heavy ga cords

Most likely the water is greater then 78 degrees which means the walleye will not be shallow. Take the areas you normally fish and look for adjacent structure that is deeper I would say 16′ or deeper.

Is it possible to get this warm that far north? Genuinely curious. I know with all the heat we’ve been hovering around 80 here in Brainerd. Would have guessed the max temp drops the farther north one gets.

I have the old roadie 20 and the new roadie 24 – love them both.

One note for @Dutchboy and others who might play in bear country. The new roadie 24 lost the ability to lock it down aka bear proof it. Buddy and I loved the new dimensions but a no go for our Rainy trips.

When weight doesn’t matter and ice retention does…Yeti or RTIC rotomolded coolers have performed awesome for us. I’ve got the roadie sized RTIC and it’s great to toss in the truck, a tractor, a side by side, boat, etc and let it rattle around without a worry.

If keeping weight down while still doing a solid job retaining ice is your goal, go with the RTIC soft sided coolers. For 99% of people these are sufficient and more logical to use.

Bucky nailed it, tool for a job. I have a love hate thing with my Yetti. If you really have a need for multi-day ice retention and maybe even a bit of bear proofing, get a rotomolded. They do what they say. If not, save weight, space, and cash for something like the Coleman Extreme.
