I picked up a flambeau tactical rifle case for an ice rod case and it works awesome. Got it for $45 at farm and fleet. nice hard plastic outside and nice foam padding on the inside i have about 5-6 rods in there at a time and theres plenty of room in there. i see no need to spend $100 on a rod case that has a name on it

Another vote for fuji guides never seem to have a problem and they take abuse. when buying a store made rod i always try to look for rods made with fuji guides and then i know that the rod has a quality set of guides on it.

wisconsin changed their no cull law and now only in bass tournaments you can cull. must be something with the permit is my guess

Fremont area was slow for us sunday with only 1 21″ and a 17″ between 2 boats. saw few other fish caught as well fish all over the river rock wall, red banks, chicos, rat river pretty much everywhere we caught fish before. sounded like saturday a big group of fish made their way up river and everybody did well. should be more fish moving up with the rain. i would watch the wolf river cams as they show where there are the largest concentration of fish.

6″ for sure i’ve never been a big fan of a 5″ auger but you can pull fish through it but if you get a decent crappie then you have to wiggle it through the hole.

I’ve fished my friends fl-8 next to my lx-3 not a great comparison but the fl-8 was way louder and noiser while my lx-3 made no noise. I also had way better seperation on my screen while the jig on the fl-8 would show up as a big blob. I’ve also fished next to my other friend who has a fl-12 and the lx-3 still out performed it less interference, better seperation and no noise.

Yeah the only way to access mud is to walk from green lantern on waubesa then cross the tracks and then walk through the woods. I’ve made the trek a couple times in the past few years and a trek it is but it can be worth it.

My absolute favorite plastic for panfish is a purple wedge tail with gold or other flakes. for some reason i seem to catch way more fish with flakes than just solid color plastic. i usually rig them on a #12 or 14 ant jig. I have also done very well with shrimpos and ratsos both very good baits everybody should have in their box.

on my panfish rods i use stren hi-vis gold or trilene cold weather in 2 or 3lb test. usually never more than that and i fish crappies down to 30 fow and have never really had a problem with break offs or hook sets with the lighter line. some people will also say the bright line scares fish and fish can see it but i’ve never had a problem and always catch fish plus you can see it against the ice.

Just got back from the show! lots of vendors and some very good deals to be had throughout the whole show area. I picked up another rose creek jig box and some various panfish jigs and plastics.

for mobility dont use tip ups but you cant beat having a bunch of guys out with a whole spread of tip ups out fishing for pike or walleyes and chasing flags all day. its especially fun when u get a big pike on trying to get his head turned up the hole. it might also help in wisconsin we can use 3 tip ups at one time to cover more water

yea thats the only thing about white tip up line is that its really hard to find and when you find some you better buy a whole bunch of it

White tip up line is about the only line my dad and i use on our tip ups. not only do we get a lot of action once you get up to the hole you can look down the hole and see which way the line is going before you have to move the tip up. this helps in knowing where the fish has taken the bait. I have had kind of hard time consistently finding white tip up line though.

pitching or steady retrieve casting with some sort of plastic and feeling a walleye just thunk it and sending a big hookset has to be my favorite. just something about the walleyes hit a plastic bait.

You can use electrical tape instead of heat shrink. Just put the spring bobber where you want it to be on the end of the rod and then apply the electrical tape. you can wrap as many times around as you want but usually 4 or 5 wraps is enough.
