I found mine all along south facing ridges. I had an orange stocking hat on but after the 4th mile, I was sweating so much I took it off. My buddy who was with me was wearing his orange hunting vest and I didn’t journey far from him. I had the stocking hat run through my belt, hanging behind me so I figured that should be good enough.

I would contact them. They are different blanks unless that has changed.

One can make similar rods to the high-end ones for less. The biggest savings is with the guides. A Torzite stripper guide is around $33. Same guide in SiC is $9.35 and Alconite is $4.50. Times that by 8-10 guides and you can see the price difference quickly. I have rods with the Torzite guides and don’t think they were worth the extra money. Sic is good enough. The biggest advantage to custom rods is the balance.

Thanks! I noticed on the new Legend Tournament rods, the guides are Alconite, which I think for a $300 rod is a little cheap.

I would say this is a different situation. Id call them and let them know you got the wrong item. Personally, there is hundreds of rod builders and companies out there that would get you better bang for your buck. A friend of mine has been making rods for a few years now and has disected some of the most expensive gloomis and croixs you can find. He can make basically the same set ups as anyone out there at half the cost

I will have to look into custom rods. I did the exchange on the same call as the tip top issue. Maybe I just got a bad customer service rep. I know that, when you provide top shelf rods, the only thing keeping your customers loyal is the warranty and most importantly, the service you provide. I’ll call them over my break and spend my lunch getting this resolved. By chance, who is the rod builder you use and recommend? I am down to three St. Croixs, and the rest of my rods are Loomis NRXs, but the Loomis warranty ain’t what it used to be either.

Just trying to help by letting you know you can’t replace that tip top for $10 on your own, that’s all. Best deal is going to be paying Croix for the tip top.

No ones cares about my opinion but here it is anyway. I think rods should have 1 year warranties maximum, but I don’t even buy rods so I really don’t care. Rod warranties get abused and then you’re all paying for Joe Shmoe to stick his rod in a ceiling fan and get a new one for free, that you paid for. But if you want a 8 year old tip top replaced because a manufacturing error just popped up after 8 years of use, then have at it.

I agreed, if I slammed it in a ceiling fan, I’d have less of an issue paying $150 or whatever to get a new one. I might’ve used the rod 20 times in total, never really liked it, was a replacement for an old 6’9” legend extreme, which I did like. I am selling the 6’10” to my brother in law and told him I’d replace the tip, otherwise it would’ve went back into the corner of the basement it sat in. Maybe after 7 years, they have the inserts just fall out so we can pay them to send us a new one. whistling

Grubson, glad you’re amused. Thumbs up buddy! Again, my bar has been lowered. I now understand that I shouldn’t expect a 15 year warranty to mean 15 years, I get it.

The serial number puts it manufactured, April of 2016. Like I said, my bar has been lowered. I certainly didn’t do anything to the tip, I remember tying on a hair jig and after casting a few times, the insert just fell out and was sitting above my jig on n the line. I feel that should be replaced by the warranty, as the warranty covers manufacturing defects. I get if you slam the tip of your rod in a car door or rod locker, you should have to pay, but the insert falling out? I have another St.Croix the insert fell out on the 3rd guide from the handle, after I was fighting a 50 pound Flathead, so it’s not the only Croix that had the insert fall out.

I guess if paying retail for a replacement tip is now the benchmark of warranty service, I’ll just have to set my bar lower. At least they didn’t charge me 200% retail or something like that, just full regular retail.

I guess not. Surprising. I used to go up to Park Falls every year to visit the rod factory and what not.

Complaining about getting a $450 rod fixed for $10? Wow

Your right. I paid $450 for the rod. They aren’t fixing it, I am. They are charging me for a replacement tip that I will put on the rod. How are they fixing it?

Is $10 really worth getting upset and wasting the time and energy to go online and complain about it

Yup. I can order one for ten bucks online, so how is it covered by warranty? Guess it’s the first time St. Croix let me down. They used to ask for your address and send one out no charges or questions asked. For 40 more bucks I can just break the d@mn rod and have them send me a new one.

Found some Buffalo Trace treats on my recent Texas trip and picked up some extras. If anyone is interested, send me a message.

Winter wonderland in Eastern Iowa, got 4” last night and still snowing here. Was just out walleye fishing last night and got a limit for the frying pan at least. Hammering hair jigs right before the front came in. Ground needs the moisture, though, so I’m okay with a little early spring snow.

Get a set of large or extra large Kahtoola Microspikes. Got them this year and they are amazing, they grip the ice better then anything I’ve tried before.

I used to run decoys but public land birds never really came into them, just gobbled at them from afar. I got a Jake and hen Avian X setup, however. Perhaps if i get the chance to hunt some private land again I’ll use them, but I like the birds to come looking for me when I’m running and gunning, well, the end of my barrel to be exact.

Aaron Jones is a great pick up by the Vikes and I think he has still has it if he can stay healthy. Sounds like the Packers wanted him to take a over 50% pay cut to stay.

Yeah, looks like the Packers offered 6 million, and he signed with the Vikings for $7 million.. Vikings should get Favre outta retirement and your set.

Xavier McKinney isn’t a bad signing either.

Aaron Jones had a lot of miles on him too, sure gonna miss #33. Seen Cousins went to Atlanta, moving and a shaking in the North. I thought Jacobs was good, maybe he’s not though. Don’t watch many Raiders’ games. He did have 1600 yards or something a couple years ago I thought I remembered.

Cutting fat and signing Josh Jacobs, so far I’m liking free agency, hope we get a safety, and call it good until the draft.

Speaking of spring fever, after work yesterday I went out cruising some public hunting ground and seen 3 strutting toms in a field with about 20 hens. I had my box call in the arm rest of my truck and I pulled over to the side of the road and cut a nice yelp and one tom fired back at me with a gobble. Got me ready for turkey season, that’s for sure!

I got a 64 gun Cannon safe from Tractor Supply on a Black Friday deal for $599.00. Be aware that safes hold about half of what they say, unless you just have break open single shot shotguns.

Caught this guy last night on a hair jig. I will have to check out the podcast after work, however.

The state record walleye for Iowa always seemed suspect as well. A 14.5 pound 29” fish caught in September. Huh, I have a hard time believing that.

    Steve,
I was wondering if this bow has 40-50 pound limbs, or 50-60? Also, what price are you asking for the setup.

    Thanks!

Edit: NVM, I see the price on Craigslist, sorry.

Illinois passed something similar to what you mentioned, Gov. Prtizker’s Protect Illinois Communities Act. Be vigilant and don’t let elected officials strip you of your God given rights! Best of luck!

I just marinade my breasts, chunk them up, put on skewer, and grill to perfection. I prefer wild turkey to almost any other game bird out there. I think most people overcook them, leaving them rubbery and off tasting. When grilling, it’s about 3-4 minutes a side and then off the grill, not too long. Just make sure your charcoal is hot when you drop them on, and get the grate hot so it sears the bird. Juicy and delicious. I usually have my mom and dad over when I do it, and sometimes there’s not much left to bring in once dad and I do our quality assurance inspection grin The wife and mom were waiting this year for us to get done and when we came in, I had to make some burgers to augment the lack of turkey. whistling

Sounds good! It’s gonna be in the upper 50s the rest of the week, so I’m sure the ice will go soon, but I just wanted to know. Grandpa always said 3 whacks on good ice and he could get a horse, sled, and load of wood across the ice, so I wasn’t overly worried, but I didn’t have a load of wood, a sled, or a horse.

I’m sure I could have fine tuned my vexilar a bit better and it is just the basic FL8 model. Just thought it was interesting.

You didn’t have it on the first on setting, for 20 feet did you? That would show the fish as bottom. If you put it to 40 feet, it should show them suspended. Something to potentially check.
