Hey Brian, nice to see someone post something here. Had to have been a fun day for you and the guys. Have only been on the ice twice so far this year and both times we ended up fishing at Pibel. The ice there is a good 6″ and the 10 pan fish limit is easily filled.

In past years we have fished Lake Erickson, but this summers flood waters took out the dam and what was a nice icefishing destination now is a goner. Going to have to find new water soon.

Keep bringing those pictures and reports.

Sure has been nice and quiet at Sherman for the past few weeks without that maniac racing around the lake. I suppose he will find his way back up here to harass the fall bite pretty soon.

The water has been shut off going out of Sherman. The water has come up over a foot in the last week. Thunder Island is now about a foot below the surface. The water quality is at best muddy because of the winds of late.

The ramp at Tradewinds is closed but the ones in the public lot are good to go. No one is using the ramp at Thunder Bay because of the holes in the ramp. One side is not usable at all.

Fishing is slow at best; a few whites if you can find the Shad. Lots of trolling going on for walleyes chasing suspended Shad.

I got to see it in person. No pics needed. It is a beast. We hooked one, we think, later and couldn’t stop it. Can’t wait for the pics though.

Yeh, Brian I heard that the ice went out of the Loup the other day. I will check it out wheni go over it to get to the cabin in the morning.

The fall is coming; a few short weeks until football starts. Football and walleye pigs; nothing better.

With these temperatures the mornings have been the only time to be on Sherman lately. We have been catching occasional walleyes trolling flicker shads in 20 fow. It is not hard telling where to work; just follow the nearest boat and they will join the pack soon.

The whites can be caught; you just have to keep following them around. One day they are hot the next not so.

Seems like this year has been one mayfly hatch after another. Hopefully that will soon end and the fishing may improve.

So long from the mud hole as the water goes down and down and down. It has been nice having a full lake this summer; but it has made for some real difference in the fishing.

Went to Davis on Sunday and I think that they all moved from Sherman to Davis. Must be my magnetic personality attracting them.

Zac, great to see you on the water today. Ken and I didn’t recognize you on the first pass. Our shallow bite kind of died on us today but had one real nice slot fish that was released. Lots of small fish; but nothing to brag about.

Ben, you have to mow on Wednesdays. That way you don’t ruin the rest of the week.

I think that the jet skis and skiers out numbered the fishermen today.

Please keep a prayer in mind for Ben’s wife and children in the days and months to come. Also, keep in mind those that were injured in the accident.

    Ben, you will be missed!!!!

Nice report Brian, you seem to really have their number out there. That smallie had to be a riot on light tackle. I’m really glad that you find time to take your dad fishing. That way you won’t feel so bad taking me to some of those same fishing holes. lol

I have not been to Calamus this year; but by my recollections it might be a week or two early. Just from the past years and the air to water temps.

I’ll be back on the water as soon as this wind calms a bit. The billfold is somewhat lighter; but the enthusiasm has not waned. Carb kits and a power pack were needed. Now a loan from the “better half” and its up to the lake for some walleye fishing.

Oh, BTW …………. whites at the inlet and crappies in the coves, Sherman is turning on.

Hey, thanks guys, I hope to relay these ideas to my mechanic. I know that he will appreciate the ideas as much as I do. Hope to be on the water soon; these flat land walleyes need to be harassed after the spawn.

I would have to second Ben on that nice fish Brian. It’s nice to see someone gets to go fishing. We will probably see you on the canal one of these days.

What colors do you guys run the most / like the best / catch the most fish on?

it seems that I lose more Black/Gold and Firetiger and Chrome Clown. I’m looking forward to using some of the new “perch” patterns; which is kind of crazy since we are shad based forage.

Of course, the only place it did NOT work for us was at Sherman. That’s the way that usually goes.

Nothing wrong with that Brian, we probably had the worse trolling bite of our lives at Sherman last year. That’s not to say we didn’t catch fish trolling , just not the numbers or the quality. We had a great bite at Calamus that was too good to leave. We also had a little luck on a couple other lakes with more liberal limits than Sherman. The jig bite at Sherman was killer.

I won’t complain too much though…. I don’t mind adding to my growing stash.

So Brian are you going to join the trolling madness with a fervor this year; or just dabble in it? Can’t wait to get in line with all of these new trollers popping up all over the place. It used to be a nice quiet thing to do; now we may need to put up lights on some of Nebraska’s impoundments.

Certainly wouldn’t hurt. All of them from 83, that is our cabin, to the end got crunched up.

That sucks Flatwalter. But, will this be the “normal” winter level now?

We were told last fall that it was the “winter pool” that they had always used in the past. But this is the first time that we have had water on the front row of poles on our dock. We have owned the cabin for a long time , thirty years or better. This is only the second time that we have had to do any dock work and I was much younger then. There is some discussion between the cabin owners association and the irrigation district about possibly keeping it lower again.

Worked on the dock at our cabin in the permies on trail 12 on Sunday. There was a strip of ice along the shore but the lake was open from the inlet to the islands for sure. Went down to the private cabins ramp and it still was frozen in, so you would not be able to use it.

The ice really raised hell with our dock and most of those on our shore line. We were able to stand in water and ice and do enough digging and jacking to get the front posts straightened. But it will take some major digging to get it back down. Mother nature is something not to mess with; especially when they leave the lake as high as they did this winter. About a month until they start to fill the lake. Maybe during that time we can get it straightened out enough to be usable. Many of those close to ours are “toast.” Bring five gallons of gas and the marshmellows cause there is no helping them.

You better start another box of Flickers. Too many new colors came out this year.

Don’t think that I will need another box, Ben. By the time this old man gets to any of the stores they are out of them already. I wished I worked for Berkley; I could come up with enough color combinations to cause a stampede.

Monster box #1 Berkley Flicker Shads
Monster box #2 Rapala Glass Shadraps
    Monster box #3 Rapala Shadraps
    Monster box #4 Bill Normans
Monster box #5 Hot n Tots

What will be in the next box to hide from the wife?

Thanks, I apprecate it. I guess it is time to take the Crestliner to Brad and see if we can’t get another year out of it. I always have a hard time making the transition from ice to open water or also the opposite. It just seems that things are just getting good when the change comes. As soon as the prespawn bite starts at Sherman and the quad is put away in the storage building it will all be good.
