Check out vibrationstackle.com their echo tail was my go to bait several times this winter on the ice. I removed the hooks and replaced with a drop chain hook. Plastic and meat in the same lure = pretty awesome catches.

I purchased a pair from military surplus a few years ago and put cabelas binders on them. One of the best winter investments I have made. In our family of 4 we ALL have shoes. Winter goes by a little faster.

It’s called the Nigerian scam. The check or money order will be counterfeit. Midwest USA gets hit heavily by scams since we are a trusting sort and won’t admit when we are wrong or someone gets the best of us. Scams change and evolve daily. Keep up on your finances and educate your loved ones of the financial dangers scams pose!

I try not to set up my shack until I find a bite or its too cold to sit on a bucket. I find it hard to stay mobile when in a shack, comfort becomes an anchor.

I usually pull onto an area and drill a dozen holes. I fish each hole until I find a bite or mark fish. If the bite stays I will shack up.

It is ok to check out the eye candy. Gotta fight off the chance of being talked into signing up for siding or windows.

It might be a little tight depending on how much gear you have to set up for each person. I wouldn’t spend the time or cash puting a third seat on the sled. Set the extra guy on a bucket by the door an they can fish holes in each corner left and right of the door. This will make it easier to get in and out of the shack without stepping into a hole or kicking gear down a hole.

It’s been 20+ years since I went to college in Mankato, MN. At that time we bought taxi cards. These cards came in very handy after a night of partying with the need to go across town to sleep it off. Saved me several nights of potential BAD decisions.

One of my favorite lakes in NW Iowa had a bad fish kill late this fall. Monster walleyes 31″ and bigger washed up to shore. The Iowa fisheries officers said it was a fungus in the fish gills that didn’t allow them to get oxygen. We wanted so bad to blame agriculture or residential spills but that was not the case here. I am sure the fisheries will make a determination and publish their findings.

48 gun LIBERTY John Deere model. Adds major comfort and confidence with style. Avoid the spin dial and go with keypad if you can.

Late summer I had similar problem. I took a piece of wire and started digging away trying to get spray. I dug what was left of a HUGE bug or nest of bugs. There was more than 8 legs. Hahahahaha

If you want a cheep solution to see if you like the idea of a painted rod tip try whiteout. If it isn’t what you want just rub/scrape it off. You may even have a bottle in your junk drawer from the days before auto correct.

Several years ago I purchased a pair of snowshoes from a military surplus shop and put a good set of binders on them. They are not name brand but are awesome. LL Bean shoes are ok for family recreation but if you are looking for some that can take some abuse look for surplus shoes. My 12 year old and 7 year old have been on shoes with my wife for several years already. Great family fun.

As kids we burned wood to heat our house. For the last 6 years I have used my Central Boiler unit to heat our home and shop. NONE of the trees or wood I have put through my stove were cut down just for heat. So… My Question to EPA would be – What’s the difference if I burn the wood in my stove and capture the BTU’s for heating or the wood gets burned in an open pit or hauled to the local landfill.

    I forgot…

IT CAN”T BE TAXED LIKE ELECTRICITY OR FOSSIL FUELS!!!

Make sure you measure your trailer or truck to make sure you can haul it. I am going to have to upgrade to a full length truck box before I can get the shelter I want.

I have had success with spoons that I have removed the treble hook from and replaced with a drop chain hook. The minnow action as it fights the spoon makes an awesome presentation.

You are not concerned with snow/ice melt packing into the carpet and freezing? If you are set on a carpet, outdoor would be ok. I would leave it unfastened so you could remove, thaw, and dry out once in a while.

The beginning of your process sounds like the recipe I posted here a few weeks ago. I never have to worry about shelf life because its always GONE within a few weeks. I would suggest to keep it in fridge. I do like to jar my fish in large mouth jars so I can get fish out easier.

Dang it! Just ate and now I am hungry for pickled fish. Be back soon

My dream machine would be a Polaris Ranger with an enclosed cab on tracks. Back supporting seats, heat, and cargo capacity options galore. The dream of dream machines would be a snowbear!

Go to an antique store in your area. Look in an area of farm related items. There are several styles of Shellers from inexpensive to very pricey. If you are doing some small batch shelling look for a single ear type that you can mount on a board over a pail. Have fun!

Check into High Banks Resort. I have not stayed there but they are great supporters of Pheasants Forever.

    Real simple

Step 1 – cut fish into bite size pieces then soak fish in on-iodized salt water solution (pickling salt) for 48 hours.

Step 2 – pour off salt water and rinse in cold water then soak fish in white vinegar for 24 hours

Step 3 – drain vinegar and discard. Open a window because the next part of the process will bring a year to your eyes. Bring to a boil for 5 minutes: 11/2 cups sugar, 3 cups white vinegar, 4 bay leaves, 1 tsp WHOLE all spice, 3 tsp mustard SEED, 11/2 tsp WHOLE black pepper. After boiling set in garage and let cool. DO NOT add to fish HOT!

Step – 4 add cooled brine to fish in a container that will fit in fridge. Add 2 cups or more white port wine onions and peppers.

Step 5 – let stand I fridge 12-14 days. Open and stir on occasion to ensure fish is covered in brine.

Add saltine crackers with a little horseradish sauce and enjoy!

Fisherman’s Factory Outlet in Spirit Lake, IA is a good source for what you may be looking for. I have made several ice rods from broken open water rods. Snoopy and Barbie poles make great ice rods – I make wood handles on my turning lathe. Add a reel and make a kid happy.
