Planning to take my dad on a trip first week of May for the Wisconsin fishing opener. My question…in years past, how often are the lakes still locked up for Wisconsin opener? Specifically Chequamegon Bay. We are hoping to spend most of our time fishing the bay, but if the water is as muddy as it was last fall we will venture out to give other lakes a shot. I know its impossible to predict this year, just wondering how previous years have been. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time!

Granted this is in MN but if you go to the MN DNR ice out page you can use the quick zoom feature to pick out individual lakes. All the historical ice out data they have for that lake is available. You could pick a handful of lakes that are of comparable latitude to get a sense of the ice out variations you may expect in your area of Wi.
