I’m trying to learn what muddies up the water (army core of engineers & the dams?; algae bloom?) and how to tell when the water should be clear vs. mucky. I’ve been told cat fishing muddy waters is generally better but I have found the exact opposite to be true. Comments? Links to websites with info. on this?

    Thanks in advance!

Biggest contributing factor would be rainfall, at least it seems like that to me.

Obviously you’ll notice it more in the spring as the water is very clear to start and muddies as the snow melts. This time of year it will go from looking brown (clean) to brown with big clouds of mud.

waves from boats or the wind can cause the river to muddy to. Barge props will stir up a lot of bottom also in lower water conditions.
