Has anybody been fishing around the checks yet? Would like to give a try in the next couple weeks. Might be a good time to get a few walleye.

For the second year running, I really haven’t heard much at all about the checks. Usually I hear something, but not this year. I’m betting not much fishing was going on because of the cold, frozen conditions, too. They’ll be heating up a bit real soon though.

The checks on our canal system are spaced out, anywhere from 4-5 miles apart on up, usually. They are concrete structures the water passes through, and a lot of times there will be holes on the downstream side, and with that are fish concentrations. The checks are how the water is regulated down this manmade canal system. Sometimes you’ll go to a lake on the canal and it’ll be at full pool, and the next day you go it’ll be down 2 feet. Always fun dealing with that mess!!!

Glad to have you on board, Junkman. Where abouts are you located?

The checks around Gothenburg are starting to go now. A lot of walleye ranging from 10-18″ with an occassional 5+lber. Some days is great others are slow. Yesterday was slow. Inlet at Johnson is still slow for the most part. The bait fish have yet to move into the inlet.

Did you end up fishing? Have you heard anything on Tobey or the Double?
