Tongue weight

    On a average 16 1/2 v-bottom boat, what do you think the tongue weight should be. I have t-motor up front with the batteries about 5 foot back from the front of the boat. I was thinking about moving the boat back about 6 inch to see if that would help. A suggestion. Thank’s ahead of time!!!

    Oh at one time I was thinking something about 250# but, I think I’m over that.

    usually between 10 and 15% of the total load weight.

    Boat 1200#
    Engine 590#
    20 gallons of fuel 160
    3 batteries 165#
    300# of gear

    2415# x .10 = 241#
    2415 x .15 = 362#

    BTW – you would be much better to be over 10% than less than. Less than 10% of the weight on the tongue will cause a number of trailering issues.

    Take the boat and trailer and weigh it at a truck scale fully loaded..
    Finding the 10% is easy then smile
