I am cutting off a tower crane pad at Abbott hospital.
Pad is 30ft x 28 ft 8 ft deep. I have to cut it horizontally every 2 feet and then cross cutting in 6 ft increments one way and 8 ft the opposite. Ending with 2ft tall 8 ft wide and 6ft deep chunks of concrete.
The wire saw is the only tool for this that’ll work and it’s pretty cool so I though I would share. Inside the concrete is extreme amounts of rebar, the bottom steel section of the tower crane, 18 vertical helicoils. Very hard stuff. This should take a while.

The 2×4 help guide the wire. The concrete has less resistance then wood so with out the wood the wire would go where ever.

It’s 3/8s cable with diamond heads every inch and a half. I have 120 ft of wire spinning at the moment. That’s ball park 8k in wire

Slabs like this have to be wire cut. The wall mount saw I run every day has a max depth of 28 inches. This wire cutting is unlimited as long as you can feed it around. This is how we cut bridges down as well

My oldest boy(16) is trying to get into the concrete trade and I keep telling him about all the cool stuff you post. I think he has found a company to work for this summer but still waiting on some details that he should hopefully know today.

Lol they treat me real well, we will just leave it at that. I get to do lots of cool stuff at work. That’s what keeps me going. Today I’m doing this, in a couple weeks I’m cutting and dropping full bridge beams and the week after I’m cutting a building to collapse its self in on its self at the u of m. It’s always a new challenge
