So I am perusing facebook and out of the corner of my eye, I see an ad and the word Walleye… it’s fricken Red Lake Nation selling walleye filets, fresh frozen and ready to ship… $69 for a 5lb box of filets… maybe they should pay us taxpayers back for having to re-stock their “natural” walleyes they now sell on facebook.

I ended up on there page last year and saw they sell 3 on bag of walleye CHEEKS! How many 25″+ walleyes were killed to make that bag! I don’t want to even know it makes me sick!

January 21, 2016 at 8:54 pm #1594476Yes Grasshopper it’s true. We re-built the netted out lake just so it can be netted out again. If I’m not mistaken we have a few bucks invested in the fish processing plant also although I can’t swear to that.
Political correctness only gets you so far. In this case it got Red Lake stocked so it can be netted out again.
January 21, 2016 at 8:59 pm #1594478I believe it was the mystic lake casino tribe that gave them 2 million to update their fish processing facilities.

January 21, 2016 at 9:30 pm #1594495I think we need a few more casinos. I think we should start a protest group called ” Walleyes Matter” and march through every casino, reservation, and State Capitol building!!

Good idea but they would never allow you to step foot on the property.
They don’t fear political correctness or aren’t afraid of offending anyone.

[/quote]Are talking about the Native Americans or the Politicians?
January 22, 2016 at 7:48 am #1594535I may be wrong but don’t believe that the Red Lake Indian Tribe by tribal mandate are allowed to net Red Lake. All Walleyes that are taken from the lake have to be caught by hook. I didn’t say one line, one hook but they have to taken by hook.
I think that Red Lake is a great example for Mille Lacs.
I am not an American Indian but some of them still show respect for nature.
January 22, 2016 at 7:53 am #1594539I would go so far as to say “most” natives show respect for nature… it is very few in the scope of things… more times than not, when I see a “native” raping the resources, he looks alot like me…. blonde hair and blue eyes.

Maybe that is the answer to this “native” issue. Maybe just add some wording to the original treaty saying that “natives” can do the netting as long as they have proven that they are 100% native, not a Hienz 57 variety using both dna and a well kept family tree history as proof. For those with blonde hair and blue eyes who show up, do with them what their 100% ancestors did with them when back when the treaty was signed.
