I just ran across the figures for converting the length of a sunfish to lbs. The formula is (length x length x length) / 1200. That means it would take a 10.5 inch sunfish to make 1 lb. The state record hybrid sunfish which came out of Lake Zumbro is 1 lb. 12 oz. which would have made it about an 13 incher. The state record bluegill is 2 lb. 13 oz. which would have been a 15 incher! WOW – those are some big fish!!!

    Sunfish length to use conversion:

    4″-5″ = cut bait

    5″-6″ = live bait

7″ and beyond = frying pan

Very funny! WS allows them for use as bait, but not MN.

    Thanks Mike!

My personal best Bluegill worked out to weight 1.19 pounds. I can’t imagine what it must have been like to hook a 2 pounder! It must have been like pulling a trash can cover through the water. Wow…
