Got on the river last nite with my grandson and his cousin. thought we should give the dams a try, well turned out to be a good try. Caught fish on the first cast and it was fish on for the next hour. Not alot of big gills, but the action was so much fun. those two guys were hootin and hollern with every fish. What a great time on the water. good luck fishing all–John

how do you work a dam for gills? I assume anchor up just above it and work spilt shot and crawler before, on top or behind the dam is my question?
July 24, 2009 at 2:30 pm #792796Good Job John, them kids had a blast I’m sure
How is the new boat working for you, must be nice to have some room now
Erick,
We anchor up on the wing dams on Pool 8 for the gills, small jigs or letting a boober rig take your bait to the face of the wing dam works for the gills.
Here is a report on Pool 8 wing dam gills from last year.
Hope this helps answer some of your questions.July 24, 2009 at 3:36 pm #792826the boat is much nicer, if for no other reason than the wakes from the bigger boats. Much safer when I have the grandson out. And the room is a grweat help. Erick, what Bret said, anchor just obove and piece of crawler to front, top or back. I have found, get toward the tip in this lower flow for the larger gills.

Sounds like you and the boys had a blast.
Two weekends ago my wife and I couldn’t find a gill on a WD
only in wood with current. Things are changing up to a normal summer bite – finally – it sounds like.
Thanks for the report.
