Fished the backwaters in the La Crosse area Sunday, from 7.30 am until 2 pm. Looking for the crappie bite to begin, none to be found. The bluegill did co-operate. Ice jigs, wax worms, redworms, caught about 100 fish, 9 of which measured 8-9 inches, the rest were in the 5-7 inch range. The sheer number of bluegill being caught, and released, by the boats present that day, will mean some very good fishing for some quality sized bluegill in the future. Water surface temperature Sunday 64.5 degrees.
