New to shed hunting

I really want to get into shed hunting this year. A few of my buddies do it and it looks like a good time. I’m pretty sure I have a good area to search. Lots of deer activity and also a running water source. I will be searching in northern Minnesota near the north shore. Any tips you would give to a rookie? when to start? Spending more time near food sources? Etc. No need to give away any good areas to look just looking for some pointers.

By me, I know where the bucks’ primary bedding areas area and their trails to food. I walk their routine trails and usually score a few every year.
