That is an Amanita species. You are right about the hallucinogenic properties but some are quite poisonous. You may end up needing a liver transplant if you eat it.
From what I read in the mushroom book, they make a hell of a tea
DEADLY! Often called the “Death Angle”.
I read probably 50 articles yesterday on it, they all said poisonous, but deadly seemed to be a myth from the past. No death was ever actually documented from ingesting these. Only stomache pains when ate fresh. Lots of people around the world hunt for them and boil them in to tea. Boiling takes away the acid that causes the stomach pains.
I had alot of reading time yesterday in the bow stand.
The only death on record was in 1897 and can’t be confirmed to be a true story
Still highly looked for by the northern Indian tribes. Also the same mushroom Alice in wonderland is based off.
Locally written and produced book:
Untamed Mushrooms: From Field to Table
Plenty of excellent photographs.
If you jump up and hit that one with your head.. you gain in size to double and speed is enhanced and you are invincible for about 10 seconds.
It’s not a Death Angel, it’s a Fly Agaric (Amanita Muscaria).
Definitely not an “edible” mushroom in a culinary sense. I’d never eat one.
It was keat to find these. I have only ever seen 2 others in my life. And they were in northern MN.
I found 8 of these yesterday. I left them grow for a animal to eat and go visit Alice.
No tea for this guy, back in the day I might have played with some truppy mushrooms but not so much any more
