“Sincerely Ron Schara” But don’t come to me with questions, call this other guy.

I’m still not overly impressed with this group. Seems like the 1% ers of MN fishing trying to raise money for walleye stocking to me. I don’t believe they’ve actually accomplished anything in the three years they’ve been a thing.

I wonder if it will turn into the now defunct North American Fishing Club.. they collected dues and some even bought Lifetime memberships… and now its not even a thing anymore… crazy

I’m still trying to determine how much it costs (in addition to member dues) to be a “benefactor” and attend this “critical event”…. Anyone else get an answer?

There’s no proof that MNFISH is a thing either.

Other than the high profile names, booths at sports shows, and mailing address? Do you think the names involved would put up their reputations and livelihoods for a fake coalition?

Yes. I also don’t think they will put whats good for Minnesota sportsman over thats good for their business. Show me something, anything that they specifically have done other than hire 4 lobbyists. They talk a good game, they beg for money, they flaunt their names but I would like to see some results. I also wonder why they chose access improvement as a starting point? Wouldn’t that fall under the DNR control which we already fund? Isn’t this $97 million another tax sportsman are paying to fund something that their taxes are already suppose to be funding? I’ll lead the bandwagon charge when they can show me something concrete that they have accomplished.

I don’t disagree, but I also don’t think it’s “not a thing” either, because clearly it is and they have donated things and such. But I also agree it could just be another NAFC.

I’m not sure anyone knows much about MNfish. They don’t give you a whole lot of answers or accomplishments with 2 newsletters a year and nothing else.

They discovered zebra mussels in Rainy last year. This year there will be decontamination stations around I-Falls & VNP including the mechanical portage at the Kettle Falls Hotel. NOBODY will get into Namakin without pressure washing.

    Welcome to 2022.

    Welcome to 2022.

Its actually a truck portage, and Kettle Falls Hotel would have to decontaminate both of their trucks every time they pulled any boat out of Rainy. That would be insane on a daily basis and add in the extra time on busy days (many guides make the trip from Kab/Nam into Rainy in July/Aug for the reef fishing) and it will be a massive cluster. Glad all 3 of my trips this year are on Namakan (no far east end Rainy trips where I portage over this year) and my one trip on Rainy I will put in/out at the VNP dock on Rainy itself.

They’ve been around for 3 years now (I think), and these are still their four main issues at the summit for tomorrow…..would’ve thought those would be identified by now……

Haha no kidding, and you’d think an organization trying to build a grassroots following and support wouldn’t use such corporate speak. Just missing synergy, circle back, diversity/inclusion/equity (for our commish) and a few other corporate buzz words.

Dutch, I asked what it would cost to attend the Summit. Never got a reply.

Problem is this organization hasn’t done anything in 3 years and has taken a lot of people’s money along the way.

IS BASED NOT ON WHAT IS BEST FOR THE MASSES OR EVEN WHAT IS BEST FOR THE INSTITUTION, BUT IS BASED SOLELY ON WHAT IS BEST FOR THAIR CAREER, ANYTHING ELSE IS JUST A BYPRODUCT.

You would think that with the money they’ve collected, they could afford a semi decent audio system and a social media specialist. They called this Summit a historic event for MN Fishing and they didn’t even test the broadcast?

I’m sure BK is crafting his report as we type. I’ll be interested to read what the mega EGO’s came up with and what lies Walz spewed this time.

Except for on here i never even heard on MNFISH til Monday night. Dont remember if i was watching Twins game or waiting for Wild game to start but seen a commercial with Ron Schara about it. Seemed genuine enough for me to fall for it til i remembered what you guys say about it.

Because I have nothing better to do jester I went through and re-read the whole thread again. Nothing posted to this point has changed my opinion. Maybe BK’s report on what happened will but I’m skeptical.

It’s really to bad because I think the sportsman had high hopes that maybe somebody was looking out for the resource and our place in it.

Maybe somebody here knows this…..how hard would it be to post the minutes here on IDO from the MN-FISH meetings? Being a non-profit I assume they should have some degree of transparency don’t they? James, would that be allowed here? The reason I ask is they don’t want to make anything public but the meeting minutes would at least let us know what they are thinking and contemplating.

I was one of between 9 and 27 viewers during the stream, and at least 2 of them were DNR employees. Guess historic could mean a lot of things… whistling rotflol

Once again I’d like to encourage folks to support and join MN Fish. They aren’t capable off preforming the instantaneous miracles that some are expecting. It takes years to build a grassroots group that will represent anglers in Minnesota. The bonding bills they are supporting might take two or three legislative sessions (bonding bills are only entertained every other session). You have a opportunity to help build a true MN angling organization that can represent us. I along with a handful of others have spent the last twenty years trying to influence legislation that benefits anglers. You’re talking at least a million anglers in MN with zero representation. Many are like myself who started with little knowledge of how the DNR makes rules and how legislative bills work. Numbers speak loud, we need to give MN Fish our support and voice.

I signed up the very first day I heard of MN-FISH Founding Member March 1, 2019

So 3 years ago and some change

    Since that time,

-The website isn’t optimized (Google can’t even find MN-Fish).
-Last update was Nov 18 2021
-The Summit info isn’t even on the website.
-To date…no products or discounts in my account dashboard or any invites to special events.
-No reply to my email about purchasing an invite to the Summit (which they clearly instructed people to do in their call to action).

I’ll continue to contribute because I believe in the same things they do. But I’m not going to lie, it feels more like I’m buying a $35 beer and burger at a sports game than signing up for a membership.

I sure hope they hire an experienced social media/marketing person who can keep the stuff active and relevant and professional. The broadcast of that Summit was atrocious. Honestly someone could have done better with a cheap GoPro and wireless mic. Like someone else mentioned, there were 20 or less watching the live stream. That’s not how you build recruitment and sustain it. Did they even take questions from the viewers? And if so, why not?
The less transparent they are, the harder it’s going to be for them.

I figure 5 years of membership should be a good gauge. I wonder how things will look in 2024…

Buzz & 3Rivers, I would love to support them, give them my money. And I will just as soon as they show me they are serious about representing anglers and not just doing membership drives. As long as I feel I can flip $50 out the window and my and get better representation i’ll sit on the sidelines.

Buzz, i’m not buying what you are selling. I don’t care how long it takes to move a bill through legislation it’s not hard to be transparent with the guys footing the bill.

So if they 20 or so on-line it makes you wonder how many members they actually have?
