Mille Lacs Band granted police powers over reclaimed reservation

I definitely support avoiding Mille lacs band casinos. Many people are employed by them so there is that aspect to weigh in on. Then they cause social problems providing money without work and then wonder why there is so much substance abuse. Then they try to blame the county, state and US gov’t for their downfalls of a dependent society.

Overall I would say the net effect has been more of a curse than a blessing. Of course some social marxists would disagree and want to further dig their own hole. Do what you want but remember you are cutting your own throat no matter which side of the issue you are on.

But hey that is my opinion based on studying history and the negative social effects gov’t mandates create.

I have a great deal of sympathy for native people and what they have been through. They are in a tough position and have reason to be prejudiced. The problem is that the knife cuts both ways. It doesn’t matter who has the dominant or oppressed position. Just because you have been wronged isn’t an excuse for abuse. That goes for us as well as the natives. I think boycotting the Casino and other area native businesses is childish. They are just people trying to make their way in the world the same as everybody else. If this ruling leads to native abuses, that would be unfortunate.

In WI the Native Americans are now trying control hunting within 6 miles of their land. Private and Government land. This is not right. Government land is for everyone and the guy paying taxes on his property should be allowed legal state set hunting seasons.

It is in the new WDNR wolf report. Several nonprofits have many reservations/complaints/issues about this report. 167 pages to read.

They are trying to to take over private US citizens property which is in no way just trying to make their way. They are using casino money to pay lawyers to litigate the county into submission and the state right now will in no way help the people of the county being oppressed without representation by a foreign gov’t.

Maybe the state patrol and other legitimate law enforcement agencies should start issuing tickets to those tribe members using OUR streets and highways with vehicles licensed with tribe plates, the plates of which no money goes into OUR coffers to maintain all surface roads other than privately owned.

I read the reports on the body parts found in the ditch in the 14200 block of Twilight Rd. (the old 169 scenic highway south of Eddies but north of Rock Reef) and the only LEO reports are from Kyle Burton & the ML Co. Sheriff Dept.
    This all seems disingenuous.

I saw a brief story about this today too but haven’t looked into the details of it. Quite disturbing if it’s true.

    It’s all over the news.
Only quotes from LEO is ML Co sheriff Kyle Burton.

No surprise that drugs were involved from what I was told from some one who knows or knew all those involved.

Far far far more complicated than that and not even close to the supposed issue, much less the back story.

The ML Co sheriff/ Tribal police jurisdiction is in the courts & working towards a SCOTUS decision. As a non-native resident of the “new” rez, I am watching closely. The Messenger has had decent coverage of that. I see it not as the band wanting the ML Co sheriff to police the band trust land but rather what LEOs have the duty in the “new bigger” rez.
I was wrong about tribal police not being initially involved. They were, just not cited in early reports.

Was this the one where the person was found dismembered in a bin?

    Yes.
Think about handling the, pun fully intended, dead weight of an adult male, even bled out after being dismembered, in a flimsy plastic tote.
