Mille lacs area businesses

I frequent mille lacs area and love the area. What I don’t want to do is spend my money on tax deferred businesses. I’m aware of eddy’s and the gaming, but what are the others I may not know about?

What do you mean by tax deferred businesses?

I’m not sure “tax deferred business” is really the most direct way to get at what it seems like he’s trying to get at. But I’ll let the OP speak for himself.

Patronize the 7/8ths of the lake from Terry’s all the way around to Rocky Reef, you’ll be all good.

If he means “Band” business say so. If he means Mille Lacs (non band) business say so. I’m referring to the OP not P2F.

That was my point as well. The fact that I don’t share that mindset is no secret. But if you’re gonna say it, why sugarcoat it?

I was just trying to keep the thread open, yes band. I heard the old meleens is associated but I don’t know for sure.

    Strange question no doubt…

To the OP, your question “what are the others I may not know about?”

If we don’t know what you seem to know (?), which you seem to be referring to tax deferred businesses which we don’t know, how can we answer what you don’t know about…when we don’t know about what you do know about?

Well now at least we know for sure what you were referring to.

I’ll be glad to recommend (or not recommend) places I’ve patronized which has been many up there. I’ll not “brand” other’s however based on your criteria.

I’ll let other’s chime in on that if they wish.

    The Meleens complex
The Marathon station & Subway on 169.
    Woodlands National Bank
    Eddy’s
    Casino

Theres likely more but these will give you something to avoid for a while.

If you want to watch the worlds slowest subway sandwich be made, the one by the marathon can’t be beat! The wife and I still laugh at how long it took to make 2 foot longs a couple years ago.

Well now you know, should’ve stopped in at Rocky Reef for “Rockman’s Burger”…with fries. You wouldn’t need to eat again for days! Just a couple minutes south of that Subway and may have been in and out not much longer. That and I think you could have got a “blue smoothie” and the Mrs a kick a$$ bloody mary. toast

That nut does make a hell of a burger! And it’s pretty hard to screw up a blue smoothie. When your rite your rite Andy. That lake has the most “characters” per capita in all the Midwest IMHO. I sure hope the area makes it through all the BS. It makes me sad driving through on the west side.

My favorite part of that old ad was that this actor was Italian. They didn’t even hire an Native American for the role.

Thanks. That is the exact list I’m looking for. It always pains me to see boats and fish houses supporting these establishments.

While I have fun at it don’t see no harm in asking what businesses are associated with the tribe. Dude likes the area, associates the issues going on with the lake with the tribe and has his purchasing power not to support them. Good for him in that respect. I have my own stores I try not to shop at for reasons of my own as well outside the whole mille lacs thing.

Many of us believe the tribal netting along with the forced miss management the courts have ordered have directly caused all of the problems happening now on Mille Lacs. Many of us also believe it is the tribes political goal to run as many of the local businesses into the dirt in order to buy up the property once it is vacated.

Doing business with the tribes is directly attributed to the demise of the local economy around the lake.

Biggill, once ya compare tribal business practices with dirty corporate business practices you’ll see they are the same. They are big business now, look at that website posted prior, they are looking for investment opportunities in that $15-30 MILLION range.

Can’t invest in good health care or work opportunities on the rez itself but hey let’s buy a hotel, or 3. Screw the netting and walleyes, there are people, land, and rights being taken advantage of.

Thanks for the careful answer. Do we know for sure that the Mille Lacs band is a big player in the tribal netting. It was my understanding that they account for a minuscule amount of the tribal netting. They even ceased netting for one season. Is that incorrect?

I’m all for boycotting corrupt organizations but we need to make sure its justified and isn’t on a racial basis.
