After using my new Elite 7 this past weekend I have yet to figure out the down imaging. The screen is really dark, almost looking like its only a foot deep. Anyone see this before or have an idea to fix it? Everything else works good.

Just a guess but try this:
Press the “Increase Range” button a few times. Or switch to “auto range” mode.
Try that first and see if that helps.
What was the actual depth of water you were in?
Is your downscan / side imaging transducer level?
As Joel mentioned, make sure you don’t have it set on 5 feet for depth. Switch it to auto depth. Sometimes in certain scenarios, you may need to switch to manual depth if you aren’t reading bottom, but usually you will never have to switch off of auto.
Some color palettes are easier to see than others. On downscan, I find the blue palette to be best for me.
Have you adjusted any of the settings? Post a picture of the back of your boat and transducer. It almost sounds like the signal is hitting the motor.
