I’m looking to buy a Kindling Cracker for my cabin, are the ones from Northern Tool any good? Is it better to get the 10″ diameter XL sized version for $20 more vs the 8″ diameter size?

I just use an ax and do it by the wood pile. Hell, we drink beer and see who can get the smallest pieces without losing a digit. wink

I have the 8″ and 10″ kindling crackers from Northern Tool. Very well built and get a lot of use splitting wood at our house and cabin. If I was only going to buy one spend the extra money and get the 10″

Ep be careful,it’s tough to pour 3 fingers worth if you only have 1.

I was asking if the cast iron build material of the Northern Tool ones are good and hold up…like Harbor Freight crap, not all tools are created equally…

Get the bigger one. I’ve had one for 2 years and it works well and is built well. I use a 4 pound hammer. It’s from Australia not China.

Save your back by cutting the bottom off a 5 gallon bucket and putting it over the cracker and log its attached to. Bending over to pick the pieces up gets old fast.
