I had a chance to sneak out one evening last week to a trout stream near Manchester. One of my favorite times of the year to fly-fish for trout is in the Winter, because certain stream that hold fish throughout the year do not have the crowds in the winter as they do in summer. I was able to land three fish two 12 inch rainbows, and one 15 inch brook trout. All were put back, to be caught another day.

I was thinking about this the other day, but wasn’t to sure with all the sub zero temps if there would be enough stream open! Thanks for the report!

I will have to head down sometime. I used to go around Highlandville a lot, but it has been a few years.

Highlandville is a nice area, the Bears are usually great streams.

Most of our trout streams are considered spring fed and they tend to stay open all winter. It is always fun to walk up to one of these streams and see the steam coming off of them when the air temp is in the 20’s.
