What is the ice like on the chain? Was thinking of coming up for the opener but I’m afraid there might be ice… Might have to wait a week or two.

The chain will be ice free by the opener…I was just up there this weekend and the main river channels are opening up, it’s only a matter of time before the main lakes are pulled apart piece by piece and float down the channels..extended weather reports now show 60’s possibly next week, with a little wind the ice will come off even faster..

April 28, 2013 at 12:34 pm #1166358Nope. The river channel is open from Horseshoe to Cedar Island under the Hwy 22 bridge. The Meth hole is completely open, but a lot of ice left in the bays and back water areas.
April 28, 2013 at 9:28 pm #1166451Main river channel is wide open, big chunks of honeycomb ice were breaking off the main lake sheets and floating down the river channels, i suspect all lakes will be ice free in a few days…
