Took my two favorite fishing buddies camping at Lake Ogallala for my last weekend of my vacation. The temperatures were hot, the water in the lake was cold, and there were nice looking fish to be caught.
We set up our tent on the west bank of the lake just a short walk from the dam. I was able to catch a few yellow perch on crappie tubes with jigs and also on some small cranks. It seemed like the trout were dead set on nightcrawlers. I didn’t catch one on anything else and didn’t witness any being caught by any of the other anglers in the nearby area that I knew were using bait fish and lures.
I nearly always just do catch and release but the second trout I caught was hooked very deep and didn’t seem likely to survive if released so I threw him into the cooler and kept the next one two to make a full meal.
