Broken Latch for the gas hatch in my boat.

Never liked the design for that latch anyway the tank had to be in just the right spot for it to work. Now the hatch flys open going down the road or if I go fast on the lake.
My question is: Could I secure the top with heavy duty velcrow and high quality glue?

Any chance you could post a picture so we can see what you have?

It looks like your missing the locking piece on bottom. But either way no reason a piece of velcro wouldn’t work

I wouldn’t use glue then it will be stuck shut.

Get two eyebolts/screws. Put one in the face of the lid and another near the floor mounted to the vertical piece. Then use a small bungy between them.

Don’t laugh too hard, but I’ve used cabinet door baby-latches as an easy way to keep the door from flying open while trailering with the cover off.

You can see that the arm that locks it in place has broken off, actually I can see I did not take a pick where it broke off but I didn’t like how it worked anyway and am ready to try velcro, or Bear could sit on the lid as I drive down the road grin

Possibly fix the existing latch by threading a nut onto the bottom with liquid thread locker and have a new “arm” latch welded onto the new nut?

Edit: looks as though building a new latch could give some clearance issues with the gas tank. Or maybe it could operate smoother than ever.

I think the velcro sounds great in theory but wouldn’t hold up well overall.

    Hmmm…

A slam hatch latch would work well there.

What? I’d imagine he’s talking about gluing the velcro down

Ya I misread that. I took it as gluing the hatch down. Lol

What about just replacing the latch with same or a similar one???

Or you can always use a screen door hook & eye.
