Black Pheasants

    My brother raises these and regular ringnecks every year.
    Thought I’d post a couple pics that I thought were pretty cool looking.

    They sure are cool looking. I will never forget one of my buddies from high school claimed he shot a “black pheasant” and had it mounted. It clearly looked like a hen. He said it cackled when it got up. Not too sure about that. It didn’t look anything like your photos, just a dark colored hen to me. He even swore that a game warden checked him with it. Skeptical.

    I saw a pile of those black pheasants (wild) hanging out in some CRP land I hunted in NoDak, a couple years ago. Very cool birds.

    Roost in trees and made a racket in the morning, when they flew down.

    Funny stuff.

    I believe they are referred as melanistic mutants. Bred in Europe.

    Well I guess i mite know where he lives then, cause I almost went in the ditch when I did a double triple take when I saw one of those black ones the other day. shock shock … rrr

    Last week when I was at the game farm they told me they released a black pheasant for me but I never saw it and I flushed my 6 birds.
