I heard that yesterday. Good to see toast

I’m a walleye guy and happy to see them come back. Seemed to be a great event last year.

Ah…who know’s where that came from? I missed it last year but will plan on being around for this year’s event. Last year even a number of the “crusty” old launch operators were buying in on having that event out there.

Can we just delete this one and move on to one of the other threads about it?

I’m definitely looking forward to it. I was a marshal at the event last year, and was paired up with an awesome pro each day (Brett Hite, Tommy Biffle and Justin Lucas). It’s amazing to see these guys on a fishery like Mille Lacs for the first time in their life and catch the size and numbers of fish like they do. I was also a marshal at LaCrosse the week before the Mille Lacs tournament, so it was a great couple of weeks for a bass guy like myself.

Also, the Bassmaster Classic Bracket tournament will be on Lake Pokegama the following week, Sept. 19-22. BASS has finally decided to spend some time in Minnesota and showcase the bass fishing opportunities up here. That can be good or bad, depending your perspective. I like the fact that the tournaments are close and it’s easier to make the trip to attend, but don’t care for all the added competition on the water!!

For those of you that follow Major League Fishing, the challenge tournaments and season finale is taking place up on Pokegama, too, starting with the event being televised in a couple of days on the Outdoor Channel. I talked to several of my pro partners last year at LaCrosse and on Mille Lacs, just to see what they thought of the format. They all seemed to like it, but one of them said he didn’t like that fact that “someone” caught 33 lbs. in the first period and ended up with 88 lbs. for the tournament. 88 lbs. would be a new record for a Major League Fishing tournament, with the previous record at 77 lbs. set by Kevin Van Dam a couple of years ago. I think the final elimination round is not on Pokegama, but another smaller lake in the Grand Rapids area. Again, another venue showcasing the type of bass fishing available in Minnesota.

You guys don’t see the correlation between all the post here last year and the assumption walleye guys won’t be happy??

It might be referring to the post on this site that was trying to drum up support to sabotage the weigh in by blocking the highway.

Also may be referring to that post here about the resort, whatever his name is South of the casino, the one who was ranting on his blog how he didn’t gain a nickle from the casino puttin the coin in to get the tournament.

Who was it that said that himself and all his local businesses buddies were going to boycott last year?

What about the discussion about how bass fishing will never replace part of the revenue up there? Im not sure but didn’t a member leave because of that one?

Using walleye guys as a substitute for anti tribal rights activists might be a stretch but plenty has been posted here to indicate that somebody will start a post bitching about it. More than likely they will consider themselves walleye guys thus the original poster is pretty much spot on.

A few points. Why the preemptive hostility?

Last year was in the past. Can someone change their opinion after being better informed?

Mille Lacs will always be a walleye lake that has bass as a tertiary fish. Trying to elevate bass on a walleye lake is futile.
Evidence of the walleye status can be seen in the number of ice fishing houses that have returned to ML this year. They didn’t return to catch bass through the ice.

I’m pretty sure that “someone” didn’t leave because of bass. I’m not going to speculate on why he left but he is missed.
