Went to balsam to check out the ice today and ended up fishing for about 4 hours. Lots of areas had a good 2.5″ of ice on them, and we were able to walk all the way across east balsam from the boat landing. Lots of open water out there still though, so be careful if you go out.
Tried jigging in three different parts of the lake and drilled about 50 holes. Only caught maybe three bluegills. Didn’t even mark a single fish on east balsam. Anybody else get out there?

Drilled 50 holes? Needed an auger to drill through all 2 inches of ice? Ha. Was out on Friday. Ice still wasn’t thick enough for me. About 1.5 inches. 1 punch with the spud anywhere there was snow. A couple of the cracks had let water on top of the ice and then refroze. That was the only “safe” ice with about 2.5″.
