Lots of coons and a sow and 2 cubs so far. Good news is I have a couple bears that found my bait. Bad news is a small sow and her 2 cubs. I still get a kick out of checking out the pictures. Hoping this week will attract some bigger/better ones.

Here are a couple more pics. I’m still looking for a better hollow log to use. My current one has rotten and split in half. I used a couple big zip ties to help keep the coons off the bait until I find one.

If no other bears show up in a few days I would relocate the bait sight.August 11, 2022 at 10:55 am #2140858Got a couple bears coming in too. One of them looks like it has a decent belly on it and will get a bullet if it shows up in a few weeks

That 2nd one looks decent. Not huge but decent. I always use to judge them by how much their ears extended from the head. It seems like on really big bears it almost looks like they don’t have any ears at all or they look really small on a big head. Not sure how reliable that method is, but it always seemed to work for me. Like deer it also helps if there are several there at the same time to judge the size. That hardly ever happened when I hunted Bears though. During my years hunting bears most came in Solo. In the rush of the moment its easy to misjudge the size. Not that there is anything wrong with shooting a smaller bear. a lot like deer the smaller ones often taste better.

If no other bears show up in a few days I would relocate the bait sight.I’m sure that is possible. In my past experience it was far more common for a adult boar who located a bait setup to run off sows and cubs.
August 12, 2022 at 11:08 am #2141048I’m not sure how much land each of you have to hunt or how much access you have to bait. If possibly I’d have several different bait locations up and running. That way you can pick spots to hunt based on the activity and wind direction. I always use to like to have several different bait site to chose from to hunt. Good luck, Hope you have a successful season !!!
