    Greetings,

Each season we try to put together an In-Depth Outdoors Get Together (GTG) at a great Ice Belt destination that will allow ice anglers to “get together,” fish together, get to know each other, tell some fish stories, and generally have a great time – in addition to catching a bunch of fish!

This winter we’re headed to Leech Lake out of Trapper’s Resort – January 7th – January 10th.

Everyone’s invited although space is limited if you want to stay at Trapper’s and fish out of their heated ice houses. James Holst & Josh Bullivant have agreed to hold a seminar after the Thursday night dinner to ensure anglers get the most out of their time on the water or in the Trapper’s Landing fish houses.

We’ll have prizes give-aways on Friday and Saturday evening after everyone gets off the ice and gathers in the Beachfire Bar & Grille located on the grounds at Trapper’s Landing. Prizes will be given away for biggest fish, smallest fish, funniest story and largest fish caught by someone under the age of 14. Prizes will include Striker Outerwear, Tuned Up Custom Rods, and a prodigious amount of tackle from Rapala / VMC.

For more information on this Get Together feel free to post questions here in the forums or call Trapper’s Landing at 866.665.3324 and ask for Josh Bullivant.

Here’s the available packages for this GTG. We hope to see you there!

Looking forward to seeing the IDO team again and glad that we could be the host site for this. We got ice on the lake just not thick enough to venture out yet. If this summer’s bite is any indication we should have plenty of fish coming through the holes. Looking forward to meeting some of the IDO members! Feel free to call me or message me if you guys have any questions.

Awesome! I wasn’t able to make it last year and heard it was a great time. I’m thinking those dates will work this year.

assuming one can still participate in this get together even if you dont stay at trappers? say if you bring up your own fish house?

Same question. I live 25 minutes away and not sure I can make it for the whole weekend but it would be great to enjoy one day or maybe two…..

Damn, I will just be getting back from vacation. Pretty sure I’ll be wiped after an all night flight.

Of course. There will be a bunch of people that live close to the lake that will likely want to get in on the fun. Leech is a big lake and there will be plenty of room in the bar. Come have a cold one with us after you’re done fishing for the day. I look forward to meeting everyone!

What is the nearest airport? Thinking over here in OHIO may be sparse for ice fishing this year, especially on Erie. I may need my fix! 13 hr drive for me or quick flight may be deciding factor.

    #1581421

Brainerd or Bemidji are the nearest air ports. You can fly into them with Delta Airlines through Minneapolis. They have car rental. We are just under 45 mins from each airport.

How’s the house arrangements work? Just say you’re in and you guys figure it out or find our own partners?

Bemidji is a great regional airport. Nice 45-50 min flight from the Twin Cities on a small comfortable jet through Delta.

I live in SW MI and would love to come; however, being about 12hrs away has its challenges. I think IDO and Trappers Resort have some pretty awesome packages and i would love to take advantage of them. Maybe we can assemble a group of folks from MI, IN, IL, and OH (or any state along the route) and rent a charter bus picking up people on the way. I would be willing to look into this if anyone is interested. PM me or i can start a group. If a large quantity of people are interested or maybe we have people a little out of the way we can potentially rent two or more buses to accommodate assuming prices are reasonable. Thoughts…

Ice Houses will be assigned by us at Trappers. Hopefully we have enough people or groups that come through so that everyone knows each other, otherwise we will assign them per person we can have up to 4 per house and the Lakewood Lodges crew will escort you out to the ice house that you are assigned and you are free to travel back and forth to your ice house.

The Bus thing is an awesome idea. If we get a lot of people that fly in and have enough warning for all of it, I could get the company 15 passenger van and pick a big crew up at the Bemidiji Air port. I would just need enough time in advance to set up a pick up time for everyone. We want to make sure we got everyone in on this.

Since sharing is what its all about, think maybe having the houses divided up as the Bud house, Miller lite house, Crown on the rocks house, it might work out better for everyone in those houses to be on the same page. If I have to smell Coors light for 2 days there will be problems…. jester

Josh…How does Trappers accommodate or charge for wheel houses if a guy wanted to go that route?

    Thank you!

    #1581723

The wheel house traffic is just $10 per day for the road access to help with plowing and everything else. If you need a spot plowed out that would be extra and is through Lakewood Lodges who runs all of our ice roads and plowing. If you wanted to participate in the meals you would need to let us know ahead of time since we need to have a final number for food and there is an additional cost for the meal plan. Hope this helps. We also do storage for wheel houses if you want to come back without having to haul them home again. Otherwise if you are not attending the event it is $10 per day for the ice road any other time of the year.

Andrew, I would be interested in the Bus option. Please let us know, I’m yet to check flight arrangements.

Waiting to hear back from a few different charter companies right now. I will keep everyone in the loop.

Josh can correct me if I’m off the mark but my guess is you’ll be able to get out and back in your truck, car, etc., using plowed lake roads out to the houses.

    #1583076

We will have lake roads going to your ice houses and back to the resort. We will have somebody escort you out to your ice houses to show you which ice house is yours and then you are free to drive back and forth to the ice house on the roads. We will not need to go too far out that time of year, maybe 2 miles at the most.

Thanks Josh. This is good news for those that don’t have access to a wheeler or sled.
