Lake Of the Woods North West Angle II

After two days in the cabin at Sunset Lodge because of heavy winds and rain, Wednesday came with the bright skies and a fresh sense of fishing in the air.

Debbie and I had got to know all the staff at Sunset during our stay and new that they had to deal with me for two full days on shore they were just as ready as I was to get off the dock and into my boat !! So with bright skies, a crispness to the air we pointed the bow north and headed to the great unknown in search of some Canadian Smallies !!!

More 20" walleyes !!!

More 20″ walleyes !!!

I was looking for some bays with some rubble bottom content and with a gradual slope into shore so we could pitch the Storm Smash Shads and some Scatter Rap Cranks at them and it didn’t take long for Miss Debbie to hook up with a nice smallie that was pushing 18″ on a #6 Fire Perch.. this bait will soon become her fav !!!

It wasn’t long and I got into the swing of things with (not as big as Debbies) smallie that was right at the 17″ mark !!! We caught about 15 smallies in this one bay and it only took about an hour to make it in and around it.. We stopped and talked about what just happened and we both smiled as I said ” we still have 999 more bays to go !!! Well I could write and write and write about all the smallies we caught but who wants to listen to that broken record !!! lol

The Smallie came on a Scatter Rap Crank

So off to Thursday .. As we were having breakfast in the lodge. .We talked about trying to find some walleyes and I said “Wouldn’t it be cool if you were to catch a 30″ walleye !! I wish I could have had the camera to show how Miss Debbies EYES LIT UP !!! So off we go in search of a big ol fat walleye to put in Debbies bucket !!!

We took off in search of some areas of rock and 20-30 fow so we could pull lead and some scatter rap minnows as well as some Rapala Husky Jerks.. It wasn’t long and we found just what we were looking for and in about 3 hours of pulling lead I think we had a dozen or so eyes… but none in that upper 20’s mark.. this lake has so many eyes in the 20-24” range it is incredible !! So wi set off in the direction back towards Sunset Lodge and hit a couple three wind blown point and we came across one that put three more eyes in the boat for us,,, but just not that 30incher I was hoping to produce for her…

Another Storm Smash Shad Eye !!!

Well were here at Sunset Lodge until Saturday so one more day to go !!! If your to come up this way soon.. The baits that have worked real well for us were Scatter Rap Shad, Crank and Minnow on the smallies and Scatter Rap Minnow, HJ 12’s and 10’s pulling lead and the deep tail dancers on Off Shore Planer Boards…
