What will happen to these cats over time?

I caught these small 5 catfish in the bottom of a creek and released them into a small pond full of bluegill (as far as I know).

How long will it take them to grow to a decent size (2 or more pounds)?

Will the bluegills survive and will they reproduce into lots of catfish?

Those look like yellow bullheads to me.

Well Eric, if you’re in MN they might survive just long enough for the DNR catches up to you. )

Hopefully it’s legal in your state to transport fish alive and release them into another body of water.

To answer your question, it’s really hard to predict growth when we don’t know the forage of the pond they were dumped into.

Those catfish do appear to be yellow bullheads. Depending on the area the OP is posting from, some do call bullheads catfish. Bullheads are really hard to get to 2 pounds.

Hmm… didn’t know they were bullheads. I’m pretty new to fish. I caught them in Mill Creek, OH.

    Let me describe the pond:

Brown water, has plants growing on the outside, not huge, full of bluegill and sunfish also… (I think)

Do you think they will live very long?

Freezing out would be the only concern. Those guys will be around much longer then the gills in the pond.

Do you think they will reproduce in the conditions I described?

Eric – the second bullet point I read in the OH fishing regs
“It is unlawful to transport and introduce any aquatic species (fish, invertebrate, plant) from one body of water to another.”

Fishing regs – General Info –

What you have done appears to be illegal

I think in MN it is still legal for someone under the age of 16 to keep game fish in an aquarium.

He should be fine. I mean, how are they going to trace a user name to their real name? doah

Side Note: I’ll have to post a picture of some of the bullheads in my pond the next time I go. I got some red wigglers (keep it clean) all ready to go in the garage.

Side Note II: When you grab one it is easy to see how they got their name. I think there are wrigglers in MN, but the ones down here are on crack.
