I caught my PB Largemouth last week from a small public lake in Iron County, U.P. Michigan
This big girl was a hair under 23″ length with a fat 18.5″ girth, weighing 7.76lbs on the Rapala digital scale…she smashed a 3/8oz Super K (Gregg Kizewski) jig w a 5″ Kalins Grub trailer. I was using a Dobyns 703C rod and Lews SD casting reel, 12# Seaguar fluoro…She pulled so hard I thought she was a big Pike!
The DNR told me that they had not heard of a wild Northern Strain Largemouth Bass that heavy this far north…My best Smallie weighed 8.43lbs and I doubt I’ll ever do that again…

Great fish Tom! I was sort of expecting this to be an update from Pug now that he is in Florida…

    Congrats!

I’m not a bass guy but can certainly appreciate a true trophy when I see one. And considering the location where you caught that fish, that qualifies in my book.
Congrats on a great fish Tom!

Lows in the mid 30s the past couple mornings…Bass season may be over much sooner this year… (

Tom, that girl looks like a good candidate for a Weight-Watchers commercial. Nice!

Saw your comment about a short bass season. Last year was a short one too with also a very late spring. Do you think that the season for smallmouth in river systems will be shorter this year too?

    Not “Over” – slower!
