The chain method is basically doing the same thing as a bungee, but not as effectivily.

All the chain does is absorb shock when the bow lifts up and down from waves. Longer the chain the more bounce it can absorb.

Chains also make for heavier and more expensive anchors.

I hear ya, it’s the swooshing to get the mud/sand off that does it too!
My shoulders were a little sore yesterday after constant anchor pulling friday through sunday.

The look on someone’s face when they go from their first sturgeon and gradually get bigger and bigger D

Here’s my buddy Jordan on a weekend trip he took with me last year.
Biggest for him, and his current PB is 54″

Sounds like a fun time. I might have to get bigger anchors so I can enjoy some nice arm-over-arm truck pull training while I’m fishing.

Do they make 50 lb anchors?

Does it look like a lot of the tuna boats are getting pulled yet? Thinking about taking a day off to take the lady out sturgeon fishing during the week to avoid the crowds.

I always thought that the big boats started coming off after Labor Day. Now depending on the weather, there’s plenty well into October.

The best year I’ve had on the Croix was the year it flooded and went into no wake. Tuna boats hate that and when they can’t fuel up or pump the poop tanks, they pull out early.

It was just fishermen and the Afton Princess we had to deal with.

I’ll take a 40# big bertha Phil. (Think i might need one for the Rainy River with the bigger boat and a bimini)

I’ve lost two 30# anchors this year alreaday @ $50 ea. So, maybe yours are going for a few bags of shad ;) or GPS coords lol

The worst part was they didn’t even get snagged. The dam caribeaner that i clip onto them just unclips from the anchor randomly. Should’ve seen my face when that happened…twice. Now i run the rope through the anchor and wrap it through the caribeaner several times.

all we need is some steal stock. heck my angle iron came off of an old bed frame lol

i use those chain links with the thread nut now cz i lost an anchor yrs bak because of that as well

ive actually been thinking about making a slimmer version of big bertha. if i do u can have mine bro.
that’s a 6″x12″ semi stak filled halfway with lead n concrete
i can even make it heavier if youd like lol

My personal longest sturgeon came from the Croix a 61×21 i believe (Wearing red suit)

And personal heaviest sturgeon 58.5″x25″ (Black SUit) (If i recall) ACtual weight 50# from Rainy.

Sure wish the Croix sturgeons would put on some weight. If/When it goes year round i’m hoping to find them fat and sassy in the spring like i do on the Rainy.

You guys definition of a “neck down area” is all WRONG.
It is actually the area BK is seated at at The Bluffs Bar and Grill
    eating fish with drawn butter.
    LOL

Looking at the gauges upriver I doubt I will be camping where I usually sturgeon fish. Is there anywhere to camp with a short run to decent fishing? I have a flat bottom with a jet which has always held me back from the stillwater Bayport area.
