This is a first for me. As I was leaving my stand from the morning sit on Saturday, this ruffed Grouse followed me all through the woods. At one point I finally stopped, bent down and he walked right up to me and allowed me to grab him. After a few pictures, I gently set him back on a stump and he calmly let me pet and stroke him, then he flew off a short distance and walked away.

You hear about and see this on TV from time to time. WOW!!!!!
Very very cool. I would like to meet one as well.September 15, 2014 at 3:31 pm #1455052That’s really neat. I caught an episode on TV with a guy in MN that had a “pet” grouse that would follow him on hikes through the woods. You don’t hear or see that very often.
September 15, 2014 at 3:34 pm #1455056My friend up by Mille Lacs had one who would follow people around the yard. Every once in a while he/she got a little spunky would chase you a bit.
September 15, 2014 at 3:46 pm #1455059Very cool…. would love to have it happen as well.
Hopefully it doesn’t cost the bird its life sometime. (the friendly nature)
September 15, 2014 at 4:30 pm #1455081Awesome! I love to pick up and play with critters in the woods, but I’ve not had the opportunity to play with a grouse! Very neat!

September 22, 2014 at 12:42 pm #1456992I had one like this too at our farm. Every time I went to one deer stand he would meet me on the trail, follow me to the stand, then climb or fly up the ladder and sit in the tree with me. It was very cool. He was around for 2 years, then never saw him again. I had a video if him sitting in the tree with me, I’ll see if I can still find it.
